Whether just needing a new gel coat or repairing severe fibreglass damage, our experienced team will help keep your boat in mint condition.
We all love that new boat look: gleaming gel coat, unscratched hull, and crisp lines. But time, tide and that ever so slight misjudgment navigating into a strange slip all take their toll. And as much as you love working on your boat, the complex process including sanding, coating, curing time, and all the other very specific instructions from the manufacturer just aren't the way you want to spend your days. Luckily, Stratos is here with his AlexSeal certification and decades of experience. Let him crouch under the boat for hours instead!
A good bottom paint is more than just rolling it on. It starts with properly masking the vessel so the lines are crisp; transducers, struts and shafts remain unpainted; and the paint doesn't look like it was applied by a kindergarten student. Valet prefers the Micron CSC product as it rolls out efficiently, adheres nicely, and performs great.
At some point, after many years of applying layer after layer of ablative paint, the paint falls off in large chunks. At this point, it all has to come off. Valet Yacht Services recommends a "sand" blasting service to remove the old material. This is significantly quicker than hand scraping the material off the boat. Once the hull bottom is in the gel coat stage again, the vessel is masked, and the Interlux Interprotec Anti Blister System is recommended. This is a combination of epoxy primer coat and ablative paint. It is the best finish for the bottom of your vessel. Please note that this process does take a few days as there is cure time between each coat of material. At the end of the process, your hull bottom will be protected from the harmful effects of saltwater on gel coat. This is a once in a many year service.
If you've suffered an unfortunate and serious crunch, Stratos and the composite team can help you pick up the pieces. Is repairing damage to fibreglass magic? No, it's just chemistry. However, there is a proper way to do the work.
We have many years experience repairing fibreglass and carbon fibre materials on boats. Generally, the project starts with a consultation and inspection of the damaged area. The sounding hammer comes out, detailed notes are made, and a final evaluation is presented to you. We will walk you through the process so there is full understanding of the work required, the estimated costs and a realistic timeline. The overall objective is to return the boat to "like new".
We also work with your insurance provider if involved, and keep meticulous and complete documentation to facilitate quick reimbursement and hassle free claims.
